This week’s Team Culture Award goes to Wayne Goldsmith — a coach, writer, speaker and father of five who’s been shaping the world of sport and high performance for over 25 years. Wayne has worked with elite coaches and athletes around the globe, but it’s his recent work on YouTube and Substack that truly stands out and earns him this recognition.
Wayne has an incredible way with words—both written and spoken—and never shies away from calling it like he sees it when it comes to sports, athletes, and coaching. His content challenges norms, sparks reflection, and continually pushes our profession forward. Some of my favorite recent features include thought-provoking takes like “There are no 7-year-old champions. Period.” “Good Boys Make Great Players,” and “Kids Don’t Quit Sports, They Quit Coaches.”
If you’re only going to follow one voice to gain insight into the challenges and realities of modern sport, Wayne Goldsmith is that voice. He continues to raise the bar for how we think about team culture, athlete development, and the role of great coaching.
Congratulations, Coach Wayne—you’re more than deserving of this week’s Team Culture Award. Thank you for sharing so much wisdom, energy, and hard-earned experience with the global sporting community. Keep it rolling!
